Oelbach valley with Augustdorf dune field NR
To the northwest of the municipality of Augustdorf, the 151 hectare nature reserve “Oelbach valley with Augustdorf dune field” is located It is located in a dune area that is largely covered with pine forests. The dunes, some of which are up to 12 metres high, shape the landscape and stand out from the surrounding area.
The deeply cut valley of the Oelbach runs to the west of the nature reserve. The Oelbach has good water quality in this area and has a natural water structure. The extensive pine forests of the dune field are overgrown with blueberries and cranberries on the ground. Scottish highland cattle and Exmoor ponies graze on part of these forests. In these sparse pine forests one can find silver grass fields and lichens. In large clearing areas you come across heather and dry grass.
